Parish council

Beachamwell lies in the Breckland District of Norfolk. At a local level we are represented by the Beachamwell Parish Council.

The business of the Parish Council is to oversee matters of local interest, amenity and concern. Examples are:

  • Planning issues
  • Road and footpath maintenance
  • Acting as a bridge between the Village and the District and County Councils.

Generally the clerk to the Council is the first point of contact.

However, the Parish Councillors will be happy to offer advice and their details can be found on the Parish Council Notice Board situated on the Village Green.

Meetings are held every two months in the Village Hall and members of the public are entitled, and welcome, to attend.

The agenda is posted on the notice board one week before the meetings and minutes are displayed after each meeting.

Group 4 News

The G4N is a local free publication that is delivered once a month, packed with information. It can also be viewed at http://www.group4news.co.uk/

Post Office

The village is served by a mobile post office, which parks in Old Hall Lane (south of the pub) between 12.55 – 13.15 Monday and Thursday and 11.10 – 11.40 Tuesday and Wednesday.

The village post box is in The Street, opposite the gate to the church. Mail is collected at 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday, and by 10.30am on a Saturday. The nearest Post Office is in Swaffham

Shops

The nearest shopping centre is Swaffham, which currently has 4 supermarkets and a range of independent retailers including a health food shop, 2 butchers and a greengrocer. There is a general market in the town every Saturday.

Transport

There is no daily bus route through Beachamwell but the following services are available:

Saturday: A Swaffham Flyer bus comes through the village picking up at the church circa 9.50 am. It leaves Swaffham town centre at 1.10pm.

Tuesday: Eagles coaches go to Kings Lynn on Tuesday, picking up at the church at 9.15. It leaves Kings Lynn at 1.10 pm.

Tuesday/Friday: Dial-a-Ride pick up in the village on a Tuesday for Swaffham and Fridays for Downham Market. Their telephone number is 01760 720906 and customers contact them to book a place.

Libraries

Leisure facilities

Swaffham has a leisure centre, golf club, rugby club, football club and other fitness centres and gyms.

If you like swimming, there are large council owned pools at Downham Market and Dereham.

Eating out

Swaffham has a wide range of pubs, restaurants, cafes and take-aways. Surrounding villages with eateries that serve food include Oxborough, Cockley Cley, Fincham and Shouldham … enjoy exploring.

Refuse collection

Bins are emptied on a fortnightly basis:

Green (household waste) one Friday morning, and Black (recycling waste) the next.

Brown bins (garden waste) can be obtained from Breckland Council 01362 656878 and are collected on Thursday mornings https://www.breckland.gov.uk/

Newspapers are delivered Monday to Saturday and may be ordered from McColls, Swaffham 01760 720610

Milk Deliveries

St Mary's Church

Due to fire Beachamwell does not currently have a functional church at present however the restoration is well underway. The Village Green and Village Hall play host to services for St Mary’s Church in the interim.
